Something I’m Trying This Fall!
This photo is mostly unrelated to this message, but it’s been a while since I wrote you all so I wanted to include a picture of my face to say “hello”!
I mentioned in an earlier email that this summer I was contacted by the lovely Johna at Raleigh’s branch of The Beauty Boost, an uplifting space for women & nonbinary people and business owners to come and feel beautiful (not just LOOK beautiful based on some arbitrary expectation. In other words, the important distinction between health and wellness and “wealth and hellness").
I’ll be working with them this fall and winter season at various events, hosting a talisman creation table, AKA a space for people to soften into their real feelings.
Well, the first event is NEXT WEDNESDAY! It’s called the Fall Glam & Glow.
I’ll admit to you something you probably already know: I’m more “Feral and Dirty” than glam and glow.
But I do have my glam and glow moments, and also I’m trying to tell the part of my brain that says “those people are different from you!” that we ARE NOT actually that different and that I want to connect with more kinds of people, not just the other filthy leftists in my metro area. (Here I am generalizing greatly about myself and others, as is usually a bad idea.)
I am excited to be invited to TBB because I think I AM different from a lot of people there - I think I am generally more queer and witchy.
This means I will get to meet people who have different perspectives and passions from me, but who share the values of community and happy experiences for femme people.
This feels healthy and exciting.
I am also excited because I imagine there are more queer and witchy people at these events than my insecurity tells me there will be.
So I’ll get to see my fears transformed into positive experiences, too.
