Take care of yourself

Hey all! Welcome to Village Witch’s Corner. Next week I’ll embark on a new series of emails about how to be vulnerable in order to connect more with the people around us (be they neighbors or partners). For now, I’ll leave you with a Village Witch’s Corner.
Village Witch’s Corner
Win of the Week:
I make a Parts Work Spreadsheet for all of my clients: a catalogue of the parts of themselves that deliver consistent, unhelpful messages.
For example, a spreadsheet might contain a “self judgment part” who tells my client “you’re always doing it wrong,” fears these “mistakes” being punished, and secretly wants the client to take more time and space to boldly express their creativity. It would also contain several other “parts” who have taken on other roles, such as people-pleasing or worrying about money.
Having this spreadsheet allows us to see what major internal threads are causing my client’s fearful behaviors, and to gradually take pressure off of the client and change those old beliefs that formed when they were a kid.
Typically, I fill out the Parts Spreadsheet for the first couple months of working together. The win is that last week, one of my clients had filled out several parts’ worth of information, and asked if they could run with the sheet, tweaking and adding as they saw fit.
I love this moment, when I get to pass off ownership of their parts work to my clients. It means they’ve learned the tools to support themselves and re-parent their wounded places. And it means we get to move on to the next step: looking towards the external elements of their life they’re excited to change, such as relationships, work, art-making, and more. Now, they get to express themselves boldly and uninhibitedly.
Spell of the Week :
Listen to my body when it says “all I can really do right now is sleep.”
Question(s) I'm asking this week:
What would the decolonized version of me do right now, the version who never internalized capitalism and who doesn’t have a productivity agenda, who is just acting on her values and self-integrity?
What I’m listening to:
I’m currently listening to a lot of different circus-y and emo-rock-y music to head one of two directions on an aerial silks piece I’m planning this month. Wish me luck, I’ll let you know what direction I go!
Wheel of the year:
It’s spring! Whether that means snow, heat, or somewhere in between, the days are officially longer than the nights and the world is waking up accordingly. Plants are bursting free from the soil, bugs and birds are back in the air, and here in NC, the azaleas are popping off. We’re well on our way to Beltane, AKA May Day, which marks the midpoint between the spring equinox and the summer solstice.
Check out this Beltane ritual I’m hosting, if you’re local!
