How to Connect With Nature: 4 ways
Here’s an excerpt from my piece on the Autumnal Equinox, also known as Mabon (you can find it in full, for free, over on Patreon):
The Autumnal Equinox will take place on September 22, 2025, at 2:20pm EST. From an agricultural perspective, this holiday happens in the season of high harvest, when farmers are gathering their crops and preparing for winter. So, Mabon is a harvest festival! It’s a holiday of giving thanks for the harvest, knowing at this point in the season how well the growth season went.
More metaphorically, this is a moment in the wheel of the year when we welcome in the start of fall, when we take stock and find joy or acceptance in how summer went, and begin to celebrate the autumn in earnest.
I started a Patreon because I needed a container for all the creations I was making around connecting with nature and the seasons, and because I wanted to share these things with people. Each creation helps me in a different way.
Tuning In
The first thing I make for each seasonal holiday is Tuning In. (The holidays are the equinoxes, the solstices, and the other seasonal celebrations that happen between these 4 pillars. Cute explanation graphic here!) Tuning in is about the history of the holiday, but even more so about the energy of the moment, as we all experience it. Here’s a little more from my current Tuning In:
The Equinoxes are the moments of exact balance between the cool, dark part of the year, and the warm, bright part of the year. Because we are on a the head of a pin, between two worlds, this is a portal time, when we’re able to access things (realms, memories, perspectives) not available at all times. The position of being between allows us to hold the wheel of the year more fully, holding both halves simultaneously, and seeing more completely.
This creation’s format is: A short (roughly four paragraphs) written piece, with pictures. Free to all subscribers.
It is best when: You are calm and curious, looking for more information on what’s happening right now, and you’re interested in learning through reading something short.
It appeals to: People who are curious about the wheel of the year, witchy people, nature lovers.
Meditation
The next thing I make is a seasonal meditation. I choose something I need, and I create a meditation around calling it in. This time, I wanted awareness: an awareness of the worries that keep bugging me, and of how much attention I’m giving them; an awareness of what’s happening as we move between seasons, and of how it feels to experience that in my body; an awareness of the wheel turning, and of this moment where we are directly between dark and light. These meditations are at the core of my experience being alive on this earth.
Format: 10 minute-ish meditation video, on Youtube and Patreon (free to all subscribers / available on Youtube).
Best when: You want to settle yourself and experience more joy through connecting with nature.
Appeals to: Beginner meditators, people who already like meditation, energy workers, people who want to feel the season but don’t want to read something.
Ritual
I create a ritual to do at each holiday. I use a general ritual outline, and pull from rituals I’ve already created. They are intended to clear old energy, attune to what’s most potent in your experience right now, and lean on the support of the seasons to understand it, so that you can move forward in peace and power. They always include natural materials aligned with various elements (water, salt, leaves, dirt, etc.) and they usually include a little journaling.
Format: Written ritual instructions on Patreon (access to these is $3/mo).
Best when: You want a tangible way to touch the magic of the season.
Appeals to: Beginner witches, experienced ritualists, people who like to have their hands on stuff (like me)
Personalized Tarot Pulls
I said earlier that the first thing I make is Tuning In, which is not quite true - the very first thing I do is Tarot pulls for folks who pay for that tier of subscription (it’s 8 bucks). I start here because it warms me up for the rest: I am talking directly to family, followers, and friends about this season is about, and how the particular card I pull can help them navigate it. I rehearse what I’m going to say in Tuning In by saying it first to specific people (i.e. talking to a friend), and I learn about the moment from a few different angles, through the connection to the people I’m reading for. I tune into each person and ask the Universe what guidance would be helpful for them at this Equinox time, and then read the pull.
Format: A 2-3 minute video card pull, sent directly to you 8 times a year at the Wheel of the Year holiday times (this subscription is $8/mo).
Best when: You want support specific to you for the time of year.
Appeals to: Folks who get overwhelmed by all the other materials, Tarot beginners, people who like a sweet supportive treat.

Finally, I have done free community Tarot readings right up until (and including) this Equinox, and will be stopping them for the foreseeable future, so head to Youtube to catch my Autumnal Equinox community reading, it’s my last for a while.
I offer up these creations, for you and me, to connect us to our own spirits and the spirit of the earth in this harvest season! (I recommend signing up for the 3/mo tier, it’s cheap and you’ll get all the creations except a personal pull right in your inbox). I’ll be doing the meditation, ritual, and reading my own notes on the holiday right along with you. I wish you a peaceful and abundant harvest season :)
Lots of love,
Isabel
Village Witch’s Corner
My intention this week :
Only do the work tasks that are actually serving what I want longer term, and start to notice all the extra stuff I’ve added to my to-dos out of anxiety.
Question(s) I'm asking this week:
Is this important, or is one of my Parts (à la parts work) afraid not to do it?
What I’m listening to:
I’m going to see Rilo Kiley’s reunion tour next week, and I’m SUPER EXCITED. Rilo Kiley is both a) a band I listened to a lot in my early 20s (only the albums I ripped from the public library CDs though, streaming music was not so big a thing yet) and b) a band I wish I’d listened to in my teens, because I would have loved them then too. I’m listening to their whole discography to get myself pumped up.
Spell of the Week:
Take care of my parts. Notice how taking care of my parts solves all the problems they were pointing out.
