Be a Seedling

An excerpt from my Ostara meditation. Sign up as aWater Patreon subscriber to access seasonal meditations.

The spring equinox (tomorrow, March 20, at 5:01am EDT) is a moment of perfect balance between light and dark. Can you feel how this balance comes through without us even trying?

I noticed it when recording the Ostara meditation for my Patreon. (This will go live tomorrow, so there’s still time to sign up for the Water tier to receive the full meditation, intended to support you at this exact moment in the spring season. Or if you want a lower price, sign up for the Loam tier, where you’ll get written guidance and a ritual for this moment - personally, I think $7/mo is a great deal for feeling regularly grounded and connected to the earth.)

As I channeled the experience of a seed emerging from the earth, I was struck by the familiarity of being half in, half out. I realized I’d been experiencing it for a week or two already: I felt the wind on my face, but also the tug of my roots seeking nourishment in the soil.

Sometimes I put out too much without tending to my roots. This happened last week, with (unsurprisingly) my Patreon, the current big thing that I’m putting out. At first I felt accomplished: look at this big thing I made! But then I kept coming back to it, even when it was time for a break: surely there’s just ONE MORE THING to do?

When I am out of balance, I have a tendency to spin out, not know what to focus on, and forget to care for myself.

It’s an easy fix: tend to my roots.

Get in the rhythm of moving between out and in, like the back and forth of a binaural beat. One week you focus on what you’re putting out - for me, my Patreon. The next you get your feet under you - for me, resting and looking ahead at the next few weeks.

I’ve noticed myself saying “get my feet under me” a lot lately. There’s a clear image to this, one I embody sometimes on neighborhood walks, where my body is tipped so far forward that it becomes imbalanced.

As in spirit, so in body: if I notice myself walking this way, it’s because I am embodying “pushing” energy. When I lean back on my feet and make sure my stability is coming from the ground up, I regain balance and return to the present moment. I tend to my roots so my whole plant can be healthy

In this Ostara equinox moment, envision your above self and your below self are equally balanced, your seedling and roots, outward and inward.

Let this moment in the universal dance support you, and you in turn support the earth.

The deciduous magnolia up the street from my house in full blossom. I like to check in with it once every day or two on my neighborhood walks; already, the blossoms are falling to make way for leaves. The petals, pretty and pink and veined, look like the ear of a rabbit.

My intention this week :

To truly get my feet under me so I can rebalance and, from there, tune into new things.

Question I'm asking this week:

Where am I being too hard on myself around my sleep quality and seasonal depression?

What things are just happening no matter what I do, and I can release the impulse to fix them into perfection?

What I’m watching:

I’ve started Severance, which I’m loving. It’s unnerving and visually pleasing and engaging around the topics of labor, free will, and capitalism.

Tiny Spell of the Week:

I put out so much magic on Patreon the last few days that I’m just gonna let that be all the spells this week.
