Your Inner Child Isn’t a Stranger
Do you have the thing where you go "I want to do inner child work but I don't even know how to start talking to that kid"?
Let's make it less intimidating. But first:

Who's that kid?
As an adult, you're probably used to feeling these things:
Get stuff done
Be responsible
Take care of my body
But maybe not so much these things:
Become shapeless and completely vulnerable
Say what you're thinking with no filter and trust you'll be safe
Self-play > self-doubt
You might also have taken on some of those first feelings when you were younger, as an adultified or frightened child.
All this shit can make us feel far away from our inner child, but it can also bring us closer.
You two are the same person.
You've gone through the same sadness.
And you are now in a place to parent your inner child, and let them become vulnerable, creative, shapeless - so that you can become so.
After taking an inner child workshop in September, I put pictures of my young self all around my common spaces.
Next to my bed
On my desk.
I have one that kind of wanders around with me sometimes.
I want them to know that I see them, and I'm here if they want to sit on my lap.
I specifically use they/them pronouns so they know I see all of them.
I let them lean into my shoulder and suck their thumb. (I was a thumbsucker til I was 13. I had major untreated anxiety, and it was comforting!)
And the biggest joy of it is, they want to. They were so eager the first time I offered this, I cried - with joy, and sadness.
As an only child who spent a lot of time with adults, I learned quickly what was praised, and I molded myself to that. Now I get to hold my little self and let them feel all the feelings about it, so we can both heal.

Inner Child Activities
Credit to my friend and student Jess for this one: sit at your desk/table/in bed and look around your world. How would your inner child feel about how you spend your days? What would they celebrate, or not? Allow your feelings to flow.
Put a picture of your inner child on your nightstand and kiss them goodnight and good morning.
Draw your inner child, with you holding them if you wish, to show them you're here and you're here to stay.
